I saw this question over at 3fatchicks and it really made me think. Let's look at what I have purchased.
A long, long time ago:
Slimfast / diet foods - $100s of this stuff
Diet pills - $30 - 50: Stopped taking it because it made me feel like I was going to die
workout videos: $100 (tae bo, yoga, pilates)
Roller blades: $20
Various other sports equipment: $100 (I really should play tennis more often.)
And more recently:
Heart Rate Monitor - $90 (well worth it)
Wii Fit: $90 (used it for a few months, let it sit for a few months, sold it to a coworker for $30)
Stationery bike: $200 (used it for a good year and replaced it with a real bike)
Real bike: Easily $800 with bike and clothing accessories
Gym memberships: $120/yr but well worth every cent
Sneakers specific to the athletics: $70 a pair, now have 3 pair (they are also well worth every cent)
Weight loss programs at work: $100 and have only actually lost weight with the last program
Diet cookbooks: $50? I bought South Beach Diet ones, because they were doctor recommended
And all of the specialty clothing which ends up being half valuable / half junk. I wear most of it but some of it has only been worn once or twice (luckily due to weight loss).
I don't want to add that all up. I'm sure there is lots of junk I've missed. However, I also feel that some things have proved to be immensely valuable - like my bicycle. What can you add to this list?
