Drawing dragons and dinos at HeART Studio

Aug 21, 2015 12:46

Sean and Ryan are already halfway through their term at HeART Studio.

Just to recap, Sean is in the Little Picasso class (for 5.5-7yo) and Ryan is in Little Dali class (for 3-4yo).

For their second assignment in class, they both did pencil drawings over two weeks. Here's a little update on their progress.

Little Dali

Teacher Jay introduced Puff The Magic Dragon to Ryan's class because they were going to draw dragons. So far, Ryan only knows how to draw round blobs with stick arms and legs as people so I think it was a big step-up for him.

Over two weeks, Teacher Jay taught the kids how to break down the body of the dragon into smaller shapes - a circle for his head, bigger circle for his body, oval-ish shapes for its arms and legs, snout, wings, ears.

Later they drew patterns on the dragon - stripes on its torso and spots on his body. Teacher Jay did say Ryan was very tired from all the drawing at the end of the lessons but I thought he did an amazing job for a 3yo!

Will get him to colour it in when we have the time :)

Little Picasso

Sean was in for a treat because he was going to draw dinosaurs!

Teacher Pei showed the children the different types of dinosaurs and Sean chose to draw a menacing-looking mosasaur (or a giant sea lizard for the uninitiated).

His drawing was incredibly detailed - he learnt how to draw radial and linear patterns on the creature's body and an elaborate seascape background complete with bobbing jellyfish, corals and seaweed. He was really proud of it! I think it would look amazing with colours :)

Both boys are enjoying the weekly art lessons so far, and they tell me so. I still feel a bit torn about packing their week with an extra class so I am really glad they are having fun and their time is well-spent!
