From the mouths of babes

May 22, 2015 10:01

I am having so much fun with the boys these days. They are at a delightful age now (1.5, 3.5, almost 6). The baby days are well over (sobs) and all three can play together nicely most of the time. Maybe I will write about their interaction another day.

Just wanted to capture some of their funny sayings (Jordan can't really talk yet so it's just the older boys):

Sean is always quite curious about what we do at work.
S: What do you do at work? Can you rest? Do you have friends? Can you drink water?

Sean still can't quite get the concept of planets and countries right.
Papa (while reading a book): Do you know where is Israel? It is very far away.
S: Is it further than Earth?

Me (looking at some childhood pics): Ryan, do you know you look a lot like Mama when I was a little girl?
R: No, I don't want to look like Mama! I look like Papa (coz Foops is their favourite parent now, Mama is not cool in their eyes), Sean looks like Mama and Jordan looks like Kakak (my helper).

S: Which planet is Kakak from?

I often lament how fast Jordan is growing.
Me: Mama is sad because Jordan is walking now. I miss his crawling days.
Ryan: You like crawling babies, Mama?
M: Yeah I do. I have no more crawling babies.
R: Sean and I will crawl for you, Mama.

R: I spy with my little eye something that starts with the letter A.
S: Is it an aeroplane?
R: No
S: Apple?
R: No
S: Ambulance?
R: No. Give up? It's Papa's cap!
S: But that doesn't start with the letter A!
R: Oh sorry. Next time I try again!

R: I spy with my little eye... but my eyes are big! They are not little!

Sean: Why does Papa have to go to Korea to work?
Me: He has to work to earn money for our family.
S: Oh he has to earn Korean money so we have money when we go there?
Me: Yeah, kinda :)

R has been refusing to participate in gym class for weeks. His teachers and I have tried everything - persuading him, joining him, threatening him, bribing him. To not much avail.

Me: Remember you have gym class tomorrow. You promised me you will at least try, right?
R: No, I forgot already.

Yiyi: Did you go to gym class today?
R: Maybe not.
Y: Why not?
R: Erm, I don't know why.

S (with his mouth full): Yiyi look at what I made. This is a teez! A teez!
Yiyi: A what?
S: Teez! C-H-E-E-S-E!
Y: Oh, cheese!
R: Yiyi look, I made a key! H-I-J-Key!

R: We cannot scold Jordan. Because he is a baby. He doesn't understand. When he is a big boy, you can scold him.
Yiyi: How old?
R: 7 years old. Now he is 1 year old. Papa, Mama, Waipo, Kakak can scold him. Only adults can scold.

Sometimes I get a bit grumpy and sad when Foops has to work late.
Me: I am sad coz Papa is not home yet.
R: You can cuddle me, Mama.

The older boys sleep on mattresses on the floor in our room at night. Usually Foops lies down with them at bedtime. They sometimes fight over who Papa should sleep with so he tries to lie on both their mattresses to be fair.
R: But Papa, I want the whole thing of you. Not half and half!

Me: Do you want more brothers and sisters?
S: Yes, but not too many. Babies need a lot of money.

After a fight,
S: I don't like Ryan because he is so bossy!

Sean (pointing to a scar on my thigh, and confusing it with my C-section scar): Did I come out of your tummy from there, Mama?

Ryan (wearing pants with little hearts on them): I don't like love on my pants. I am a boy!
