Taiwan 2014 Day 8 - Taipei City's Children Amusement Park

Jan 26, 2015 16:22

When we were in Taipei, almost every taxi driver we met kept telling us to visit the new Taipei City's Children Amusement Park in Shilin that had just opened its doors mid-December.

We had never heard of it - but the rides seemed very new and attractive every time we drove past it.

So when we had a free day (because there did not seem to be much to do in Beitou!), we decided to make a day trip there.

We visited it on a Saturday and it was quite packed with long queues everywhere (the queues moved fairly quickly). Would recommend going on a weekday if you can help it.

The entrance fee is very affordable (NTD30/~SGD1.50) and you just pay for the rides as you take them (about NTD20-30 each ride). That worked very well for us because there were very few rides Ryan was tall enough to ride!

There are 13 main rides at the park: the Fruity Ferris Wheel, Happy Bumper Cars, Miracles of the Sea (carousel), Little Flying Dragon (boat ride), Space Whirl (swing ride), Galaxy Train (mini train ride), and Spinning Coffee Cups (teacups ride).

We took the carousel and the Fruity Ferris Wheel which gave us a lovely birds' eye view of the entire park. I loved how whimsical all the rides looked - the Taiwanese are really good at cutesy designs without overly doing it!

We tried the crazy spinning teacups - the ride was a lot wilder and faster than I had imagined but the boys loved it!

We also snuck Ryan in to the Space Whirl (he did not meet the height requirement of 100cm but thankfully they were not too strict about it), and it was lots of fun.

There were actually many other exciting rides like the Viking ship, etc but Ryan couldn't make the height limit and Sean wasn't too keen on trying them out and the queues were getting very long so we ventured over to a section where they had smaller rides for younger kids.

The boys played some whack-a-mole game, rode on bumper cars and took a small train ride. Just perfect for younger kids, and hardly any queues!

We had lunch at their food court and walked around for a bit more before leaving.

Then we went to Shilin Night Market for dinner.

It was our last night so we went all out - we tried chives bau, coffin bread, oyster noodles, beef noodles and fried squid. The kids had cotton candy and fruit popsicles and played a few last shooting games before we called it a night.

Ah, Taiwan night markets are so much fun! (How do the Taiwanese stay so slim?!)

We got back to the hotel for one final soak in our hot tub and packed up ready to leave the next day.

We flew back to Singapore the next morning - I was happy to be home to my sweet baby boy after 8 long days!

It was been a really good trip - I felt like we really covered a lot of Taipei this trip but I think we are going to give Taiwan a break for a while and visit other places on our list :)
