Taiwan 2014 Day 6 - Flying Cow Ranch in Miaoli

Jan 22, 2015 21:58

From Jiufen, we took a cab ride (about 2.5 hours) to the Flying Cow Ranch in Miaoli.

We really enjoyed our stay there in 2013 and wanted to bring the boys back for a stay (one day, we will bring Jordan there too!).

(Tip: Please book early if you are planning to stay here. We wanted to stay two nights but could only do one because they were fully booked in December.)

The Flying Cow Ranch is a self-contained working farm that is very well-run and peaceful with lots of wide open spaces. Perfect for families with young children.

After we deposited our bags in the room, we wasted no time in checking out the farm. The weather was cool and pleasant and we had a really enjoyable walk. The boys played in the old-school playground while we wolfed down a takeaway lunch of burgers and fries.

They also had lots of fun feeding the animals with packets of vegetables and dry hay. I had expected Ryan would freak out and run away but he absolutely reveled in it and would laugh everytime the animals nibbled on his hand :)

The rabbits were adorable - I had such a hard time persuading the boys to move on. The greedy goats were relentless, and would often snatch the entire pack of grass off the boys’ hands and devour the paper bag as well!

We also chanced on the duck feeding session while we were there. Very cute to see the ducks waddle out of their pen following the sound of the bell to food!

Later that evening, we also tried our hand at milking cows. I hope the kids remember it because such experiences are very hard to come by!

We had a very satisfying steamboat dinner at their in-house restaurant that night. There were many milk products on our table - milk broth, yogurt and fresh milk from the cows on the farm!

After dinner, we joined in a night baking class to make milk pudding. The steps (cracking eggs, stirring the ingredients) were simple enough for the boys to do with minimal help, and we had the pudding as dessert. I love that the farm conducts activities like these all round the clock (usually for a small fee).

Next morning we were up early to feed the animals one last time before we checked out. We got to feed the baby cows too, thirsty creatures they were! We let the boys feed the animals to their hearts' desire and I think they were very well fed, thanks to my enthusiastic boys!

Before we left, we let the boys do one final activity - painting - while Foops sorted out our luggage. Their interpretations of what a Ninja Turtle cow should look like were very different! (Okay Ryan's was mostly painted by me)

We had some milk icecream (err, Ryan wasn't too keen to take pictures hence the screaming) before we said goodbye to the Flying Cow Ranch. We will be back with Jordan next time.

A must-visit for families with children!
