Movie date: Disney's Frozen!

Last night, Sean and I went on a special movie date to watch Frozen in 3D by Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Before the show started, the children were treated to fruit popsicles and cotton candy while they watched trailer screenings on the big screens. There was also a caricature station but the queue was too long so we skipped that.

Frozen was inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen and tells the story of a pair of royal sisters who live in the kingdom of Arendelle.

The elder sister Elsa has a strong and uncontrollable power to turn everything she touches into ice. After a terrifying childhood incident involving her younger sister Anna, she isolates herself for fear of hurting her loved ones. Anna is the disarmingly charming and slightly goofy younger sister who loves her elder sister dearly and simply could not understand why they cannot be together.

As the story develops, Princess Anna sets off on an epic journey - teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven - to find her sister Queen Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.

Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

The story may be inspired by an old classic tale but the talented Walt Disney folks definitely made it their own with the unforgettable characters, incredible storytelling, stunning animation, catchy, original songs and that extra-special dose of Disney magic.

In particular, I loved Princess Anna's spunky character and was very moved by the story's depiction of true love at the end. I don't want to give too much of the story away so you will just have to watch the show yourself!

It was Sean's first 3D movie experience and the whole time, he was like this comical little country bumpkin who kept getting startled by things 'flying out' of the screen. HAHA

He enjoyed the movie. He couldn't quite follow the storyline at some parts and so he was asking a zillion questions (Why are they singing again? Where is their Mama and Papa? Why are they shooting at the sheep? Why? Why? Why?) - at the top of his voice - throughout the show. Thank goodness it was a children's show so no one shushed him!

There were many funny and entertaining bits that had him chuckling out loud. Overall, it was a great movie and we enjoyed it thoroughly.

'Twas a lovely mid-week treat for my little man and I!

Frozen hits our theaters in 3D on November 28, 2013. Definitely a must-watch holiday movie with your family!
