Project House: Weeks 3 to 6 (before Christmas)

Jan 05, 2012 22:55

This is a bit of a back-dated entry on how the house reno is coming along. Was running around and having too much fun in December I didn't have time to update ;)

Anyway, these pics were taken shortly before Christmas.

Since my last update, bulk of the wet work has been completed. In contractor-speak, I think that means the messy behind-the-wall bits like electrical wiring, aircon ducting, smoothening/patching up of the hacked walls are done.

The outdoor patio area has been paved over in preparation for the installation of new timber decking and trellis.

We deliberately left a small strip of garden as-is. I am hoping we can turn it into a sand and water play area for the kids in future and maybe if I am adventurous enough, I may try my hand at, ahem, gardening.

HOHO, can't wait to see how it is going to look like!

The new tiles for both toilets and kitchen are in. I am very pleased with the minimalistic look of the bathrooms. Glad I didn't agree to incorporating strips of mosaic tiles on the walls for 'added interest' - I like it clean and simple!

We got rid of the swinging bathroom door in our bedroom - we will have a sliding door in place - and Foops tells me that it really makes the bathroom brighter and more spacious. It was really gloomy and cramped previously!

In the kitchen, the foundation base for the kitchen cabinets is in place. We did away with the small toilet in the utility area and they have patched up the new walls on the maid's room nicely.

Also, the original iron-grilled window in the utility has been removed to make way for a sliding window which will offer the flexibility of closing that window when we want to. This was a rather last-minute decision that was certainly not in the design we submitted to the management - we're hoping they won't notice or kick up too big a fuss about the new window if they do ;)

We also did quite a bit of background work during these weeks.

Our ID invited us to his place to get a good first-hand feel of the various lighting options available.

We also went through the very tedious process of selecting the laminates for all the cabinets, material/colour of the kitchen countertop and paint colour for the walls.

Foops left the selection of colours/design entirely up to me. A good thing because I can be very stubborn and opinionated about such things ;)

More to come!
