20.04.2013: my first earthquake
You probably heard this from news: yesterday a terrible earthquake happend in Ya'an, Sichuan province. I live in Chengdu (it's about 100 km far from Ya'an) and even here we could feel the ground shaking! It was my very first earthquake, because in St.Petersburg (Russia) there's no such thing! So I have no idea what to do in this situation. And to tell the truth, I was scared to death!!!
I live on the 34-th floor and when my apartment suddenly started shaking, there was only one thought on my mind: OMG, I'm gonna die!" My boyfriend came home immediately (he just left for work a minute before the quake started and was waiting for elevator), took me and owr dogs and together we rushed to the stairs. Can you imagine this deathmarathon from the 34-th floor? Before I thought it was impossible, but we had no choice. It took us at least 5 minutes to come down, and there were several jolts during our run. Damn, that was scary!
There're continuous aftershocks even today. Actualy, there was another jolt just right now! I try not to panic, because these are not so strong, on the ground you can't even feel it, but in my apartment I feel even the slightest shaking. I guess this is how modern earthquake-proof buildings work - they start to swipe instead of breaking down. But on the top of the building it feels horrible!!!
I feel very sorry for all these people, who lost their homes and family members in Ya'an! And I really hope this quake ends soon!
