A quick thought on the upcoming election.

So as I remember it, South Africa's apartheid state crumbled to pieces in 1990 or 1991. Nelson Mandela, the country's first Black president, was elected in 1994 and they've had three Black presidents overall since then.

Here in the States, slavery was abolished in 1863. Civil rights were codified into law in the 1960s. Now it's 2008 and we're just getting around to having a viable Black presidential candidate?!

It's going to take a lot more than the election of Barack Obama to convince me racism is dead in this country... still, the hope for change his candidacy inspires in people is refreshing.
