I worked my first balloon flight last night and it was great. I couldn't believe how much it felt like just last week crewed and how easily I remembered all the protocol and rules and whatnot. What's better yet is that I really enjoyed it. Last year, near the end I was working while going to school and the stresses of school made me less able to focus on work and so I didn't enjoy it nearly as much. Well that and last year was one of the worst ever for crewing thanks to excessive mud and cold, wet weather.
This year is on deck to be much much better. I'm very excited. Lots of new gear. A new trailer, !!!NEW TIRES!!!, a brand new Remax Balloon, a winch for the truck, and new radios. I think the most exciting addition is the winch. That will be used a lot! It even has a remote control so you can operate it from behind the wheel and pull yourself out of mud traps!!!!! Oh the joy. It also felt good to be doing something worthwhile...something with purpose...and something that made me money. I love meeting all the passengers and getting to know them. It's a lot of fun. And this year, so far, we're making tips! How great is that.
Everything else is going along alright. Other work is flying by, all the shows are in a couple of weeks, and soon I will depart for the wild blue yonder of Regina. Business not pleasure, although I ask what could be pleasurable about Regina????
