$52.4 million in sales over the Thanksgiving holiday was the caption I read this morning. That is a lot of “stuff” bought. It makes me wonder how much of it will actually be treasured. Or will it just end up in the landfill like the Grinch stated in Dr Suess famous story line. Sometimes I wonder if we really purchase something because we truly ( Read more... )

This Christmas My partner and I will be spending it in a hotel in Cornwall. We like to get away and be catered for so a 5 day break is ideal for us at that time when we already have time off work for the holiday period. We did that 2 years ago, we went to Dorset for 5 days. I think next year we will go abroad for Christmas, maybe Spain or Croatia, as i have never spent Christmas in a different country to my own and would like to experience that. The only traditions i partake in is the traditional Christmas dinner, and exchanging gifts. One of my friends in Oklahoma spent thanks giving alone this year, as his parents have passed away some years ago, he has no kids, none of his friends invited him over, which I thought was odd as he is a great guy. I met up with him in London when he came over last year.

Good points! I don't get into the whole gift buying thing, but I don't have kids. I just see it as a time to spend with family.

I love all of your holiday traditions. The 3 gift idea is especially nice. I'd never heard of anyone doing that and it does make sense.

I've come to a point in life where I am trying to whittle down my possessions to just things I need or truly enjoy having. People who've asked me what I want for Christmas I tell "nothing" or something that I can experience or use up and not something that takes up space. Most gifts this year that I'm giving are either things I know they need or food type gifts that they will enjoy.
