Coming on the back of a week's holiday should have meant that I was well rested when I arrived on site at Locko Park last Thursday. Having driven down that day from Peebles in the Scottish borders (and the Edinburgh end of the borders at that, meant that I wasn't. The route I'd taken was beautiful, with deserted roads as far as Lockerbie, fast as far as the outskirts of Manchester, and then horrible from then. I'd arrived at a bookshop I wanted to visit in Matlock two minutes after it closed for the day, and then discovered that the A6 was shut between there and Derby. However, it did mean that I got to the bar on a Thursday night for the first time in a couple of years.
On Friday, I made an afternoon return trip to Matlock, spent money, and returned to site. From then on I was busy.
The event was brutal, the IC communication from the hosting faction poor, the weather hot (and dry!), and by the end of Sunday I was exhausted.
IC highlights
- the 2 hour-long fights, one on Saturday, one on Sunday. In both cases, I played at the healers' guild, and used all my power on effects that would have killed characters, then went on to triage and bandaging. In both cases I reckon we did a fine job - probably better on Saturday.
- The Harts' faction muster where the nobility were called out and grouped by Dutchy. Gloucester is a good bunch.
- Odd discussions
- Saturday night terror. The point where we decided to abandon the guild tents, and I had important news to get back to the faction. The solo walk back to camp past the sounds of characters being attacked was what the character is about.
- (added later) - The arm transplants.
OC highlights
- people making an effort to cover the security radio job and by doing so allowing me to play.
- taking down a totally dry tent, having had to carry it around damp in my car all week.
- the first shower afterwards.
IC downers
- None. No one I knew well died.
OC downers.
- camp site mess up on Wednesday / Thursday.
- jobsworths. Had I not already decided to give up the security radio, this weekend would have guaranteed that I would.
All in all, a good moot.
