[ Cold, gray wind was whistling through the twisted metal spires that crowded the sky, circling his view like the needle-teeth of a great monster. He lay still, numbly imagining those rows and rows of crooked incisors snapping shut above him while his body fell into the cold concrete at his back, fell into the gullet of the beast.
It was some time before he understood he was awake. ]
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
[ Incessant. His hand shuffled about weakly, searching for the source of the noise while his eyes remained locked on the heavens. In the distance, dead ahead if he'd been standing, the husk of the ShinRa building squatted, the bones of a dead giant rotting into ash and dust. ]
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
[ His fingers at last locked around the PHS, and he tugged it up in front of his face, blocking his view of the pearl-white sky and its vicious steel teeth.
SENDING it read.
The grip on the phone slackened. It dropped to lay beside his head. Above, the jagged metal skyline blurred and bled together, closing over him. He let his eyes slide shut.
The distress code was going out. It would tell his people where he was.
They would find him.
ShinRa would find its President. ]
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
