Toilet Graffiti

There's a lot you can learn I think about the inhabitants of an American town from the toilet graffiti in its coffee shops / bars. Jotted down some representative ones scrawled on the blackboards that decorate the loo walls at Rao's Coffee, local coffee shop that's one of my fav. hangouts.

They range from liberal exhortations of one form or another:America's unsustainable lifestyle is ruining the world's poor - Resist!

Stop Driving. Climate Change is Real.

Fuck Bush!

Homophobic Assholes; Ignorance = Hate

Kick Coke off UMass campus

to lines with somewhat dubious logic:Monkeys= People, People = Ignorance, Ignorance = Hate

to some attempts at being profound:Into the face of every criminal in every chair, we must stare, we must stare, we must stare.

Even a fist was once an open palm with fingers

This last one is my personal favourite though:If a man speaks in the forest, and no woman hears him, is he still wrong?

I love this progressive town :-)

Life otherwise has been speeding by at warp speed. Feels like I haven't slept properly in weeks - have been pretty much living in lab over the last month or so, subsisting largely on coffee and maggi noodles. I'm trying rather unsuccessfully to juggle research, teaching and union activism, no rest for the wicked, I tell ya. But then again, I have a year of sloth to make up for - so can't really complain. I owe far too many people email replies - sorry if you're one of them, intend to get around to it, when I finally get that day off..

humour, life
