Revenge of the Sith..

reviewed by two brits who come to very different conclusions..

First up is Peter Bradshaw from the Guardian (my news source of choice).. This is written with typically wry British humour, like in this passage discussing how Anakin goes over to the dark side:

"As an actor Christensen must show the terrible embryo of future wickedness within himself. And how does he do this? By tilting his head down, looking up through lowered brows and giving the unmistakable impression that he is very, very cross. If Princess Diana had gone to the Dark Side, she would have looked a lot like this."

It continues in the same vein:

"With sub-Shakespearian gravitas, McGregor intones: "Not even the younglings survived." I'm sorry, not even the what? Is that their surname or something? Are Mr and Mrs Youngling going to come home to find a nursery bloodbath?"

However, the BBC critic is much kinder to the movie saying:

However, Revenge of the Sith is breathtaking more often than it is ridiculous and shouldn't disappoint the fans who have waited 28 years for the series to come full circle

Giving more credence to the theory that two critics can't agree on anything, while Peter Bradshaw who otherwise panned the movie felt:
Revenge of the Sith has some almost decent things. Yoda is good value as ever

the BBC reviewer who was pretty receptive to the movie in general says:
The biggest annoyance comes from an unexpected source - Yoda... ..by the end you'll be desperate for the little green sage to shut up.

Given the disaster that Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones were, I'm more inclined towards Peter Bradshaw's view, but would endorse it with more conviction but for his incorrible sin of describing the beautiful Natalie Portman as "clunky"..

To sum it up, it's that time of year again.. Find myself empathising with this comic strip a little too much for comfort..
