Tribute to the Moody Beatle..

There's so rarely anything remotely worth watching on the telly, so was very pleasantly surprised to turn on public television one random Monday evening and find The Concert for George on.. The Moody Beatle in equal parts spiritual seeker and somewhat reluctant rock star really was a complex man, and a brilliant and different musician. His talents may have been somewhat muffled by the sheer prolific genius of Lennon and McCartney, but he really came into his own as a solo artist and with the Wilburys..

The concert at the Royal Albert Hall featured an all-star billing, highlights including a superb sitar solo by the impressive Anoushka Shankar to start things off, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne singing Handle Me With Care, Billy Preston doing a rousing cover of My Sweet Lord, a beautiful rendition of While My Guitar Gently Weeps with Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, but the star of the show to me was undoubtedly Dhani (pronounced Danny to the uninitiated reader) Harrison.. Super talented guitarist, self effacing 23 yr old kid (keeps referring to Uncle Paul and Uncle Ringo) - a splitting image of his dad from the early Beatles days clean-shaven long haired look and all, looks like his bloody ghost brought to life - really lifted the evening from the merely special to the truly sublime.. A fitting tribute to a man who left the world a much richer place. You will be missed George, but your legacy lives on..
