This is much better than the entirety of X3. Angstfully and beautifully done.

Oh wow. Thank you so much.<3 I dithered a bit over this one, so I'm really glad it worked for you. ^^

(Also - lol X3 really wasn't as good as the first two, was it.)

Agreed. If X3 had ended this way, I'd be much happier with it.
This was extremely poignant and well-written without being overly angsty. Lovely fic.

Thank you so much.<3 (Good to know the angst worked, I'm never quite sure as it's such a fine balance.)
I'm glad you enjoyed.

GUH. That was just stunning. Perfect union of the two canons. So bittersweet.

This line, in particular, got me: "Even now, after forty years, the source of their grief is the same, just as it always has been." Also, Erik's speaking of Charles in present tense, because he still defers to/debates with him in his mind, and the fact that Raven can come back and be civil to him after what's transpired is really nice to see. Beautiful piece. ♥

Okay, I'm grinning like a lunatic now, I love perceptive readers.^^ Yes, I think it would take Erik a long time to stop defining himself as the opposite to Charles/debating with him mentally. Ingrained habits. (And that just makes the thought of Charles dying so much worse, for me.)
And yeah, I really wanted some sort of closure on the Raven thing because really, wtf Erik.XD

Thanks so much for the lovely comment!^^ I'm very glad you liked it.

UGH, this. He's just, the movie itself is kind of rushed, but there's something particularly heartbreaking about him just being this sad old man in the park. Also, I agree that Raven gets really shafted; Ian McKellen's bug-eyed "ewww, gross" look aside, I kind of can't help but think Mags would have reacted a bit more civilly after her transformation. Like, I think Mystique still would have been on his side, etc.

I know. Seriously, I made this embarrassing whimpering noise when I first saw the park scene (before it went all 'dun-dun-duuuun Magneto's back!' - which was silly in itself, because as this fic points out, what can he really do at that point in time. Sorry for the rambling). Erik without Charles is just.. well, intrinsically wrong.

And yeah, I thought so too. Surely thirty-odd years of faithful service or whatever would have earned her that much. But then, Magneto's characterisation in the movies does make him out to be a selfish bastard sometimes.. (I blame the writers though, I rather liked McKellen.)

Wow. Just the perfect amount of every element that just lends a hand and makes this fic work. Incredibly impressed...and wholly inspired. :)
