YES. All of this and a bag of shrink rays as well. Doctor Impossible/Feral feels like the most obvious pairing ever now that you've written it up and made it beautiful. Thank you for posting this. It's been a rough summer, but this just made it immeasurably better.
I've returned to just swoon some more about this story. Pay no attention to me. It's just making me all kinds of ridiculously happy. Also I recced it on my journal, so if that's a problem, let me know and I'll take the link down.
Delighted that you liked it (and getting recced is always love)!
Given the prompt, I settled on Doctor Impossible as one of the question marks fairly quickly, but the identity of his partner kept changing as my reread progressed and characters were eliminated by virtue of being dead and/or gone. (I think Doctor Impossible/The Paraoh could have been hilarious - and of course there's always the good old love triangle between Erica, Jonathan and Jason, in all their identities.)
Incidentally, I've seen this book mentioned over at yuletide so there might be more fic by Christmas time, assuming it does, indeed, get nominated and requested and written.
Thanks for the heads-up about Yuletide. That would totally rock!
Aw, man. Doctor Impossible/The Pharaoh. I might have to write that.
Doctor Impossible strikes me as totally up for anything and completely non-monogamous to boot. Either that or commitment-phobic. I think both could explain a fantastic Jason/Jonathan/Erica love hexagon. *squee!*
Came over b.c Oddmonster recced. I don't know the fandom, but after reading this I want to. Plus, I so love the idea of a bad guy impersonating the Pope and saying nice things. Love it!
Thank you! Canon's a single book by Austin Grossman, with povs split between Dr Impossible (evil genius) and Fatale (newbie superhero) and utterly entertaining. The pope incident is entirely, 100% canon - although I should add it's only refered to briefly, in between capturing the White House in jelly and taking the moon hostage.
(The book is mainly about Dr Impossible's escape from prison and latest evil scheme, so there's quite a bit of reflecting on past crimes and accomplishments.)
Hi! I stumbled across this through fandom_of_one and really enjoyed it. I can hear Doctor Impossible's sort-of-cynical, sort-of-wry voice really well. His reaction to Feral pinning him was also amusing.
Thank you! I seem to be in the minority of people who fell for Dr Impossible and his trouble a bit harder than for Fatale and hers, so when I spotted the prompt for this, it seemed too good an excuse for a bit of writing to pass up. *g*
Oh, I love them both, but Fatale isn't quite so interesting to me.
(One of the things I liked about Doctor Impossible was all of the snippets of previous encounters he mentioned and the way that they informed the now. It made it seem like such a huge world, and one of the consistent tones I got from his narration was melancholy, or maybe nostalgia. Which was a little present here.)
