Again with the reading...
The Devil You Know et al by Mike Carey
Very enjoyable series by the writer of comics such as Constantine and Lucifer, the first of the Felix Castor novels. These are a series of darker urban fantasy following the adventures of exorcist - ghosts are commonplace in this London - private investigator, and general loser, Castor, as he tracks down ghosts, demons, and human criminals, and generally gets his ass kicked. A lot of detective-novel fun with some darker horror elements. A bit like the Nightside novels by Simon R. Green, only good. There are five novels in the series currently, so Carey is building up a nice world for his detective.
Necropath by Eric Brown
This book does say, "Book One of the Bengal Station Trilogy", but I got the impression I was reading a sequel. Meh. Pretty much a typical sci-fi failure: imaginative setting, unique and intriguing world, and characters who are cardboard cutouts doing random things for no apparent reason. Follows (kind of) the doings of a company telepath working on the station. Oh wait... Surprise! He's a necropath! Which means he can speak to the dead. Too bad he never actually uses that ability. He's got to stop some government or cult conspiracy thingy going down that I'm not too clear on. Oh, and the author focuses a disturbing amount of time describing a child prostitute's encounters with her alien clients. Skip.
