I took a much needed vacation from Nov 14 to Nov 23. My mom and her friend (who I can only tolerate) came down to visit me and Brian. We took them to Little River Falls in Alabama, Sweetwater Park Cotton Mill, The King Tut Exhibit (don't go!), and to visit her other friend in Seneca, S. Carolina. Lots of driving and sight-seeing.
My mom and her friend are leaving this morning, going back to Dallas, Texas.
Overall, it was very relaxing. It allowed me to refresh from my job and spend time with my mother.
Now I'm back.
During the vacation, I happened to watch "Run, Fat Boy, Run!" with Simon Pegg. It was a story about this guy who left his pregnant bride-to-be at the altar because he got cold feet at the last minute and, nine years later, tries to win her back by attempting to complete a marathon.
The pivotal moment of the movie is when Simon's character has to explain to his 9 year old son that (paraphrasing) life is full of shitty things to do and you just have to grit your teeth and weather through it... to which his son asks him, "is that what you do, Dad?"
Of course, Simon then has no choice but to enter the 25-mile Marathon and actually finish it... with a busted ankle, no less.
But then I got to thinking: Maybe I should try to do a marathon? No, not because I left anyone at any altar, pregnant or otherwise... but because I'm fat.
I think I'm starting to get frustrated at my weight gain and I don't want to get on any stupid diet to lose it... so the only thing I can think of is to get serious about working out... and set a high goal.
I've given up smoking two months ago.
Now, I think it's time to get serious about the rest.
