Dana's grown up survey, since I'm bored.
1. What time do you usually go to work?
8 AM.
2. At your job; do you prefer a rigid schedule(M-F 9-5) or one that changes by the week?
Having once worked two retail jobs at the same time for eight months has made me strongly prefer a rigid schedule.
3. Do you take the car, bus, walk, ride a bike or ?? to get where you need to go?
Car.
4. How long have you used said mode of transportation?
For as long as I've had a license.
5. Have you ever considered an alternative?
I want to buy a bike but I can't justify that purchase right now.
6. Do you have/want to have children? If yes, why?
Yeah, I want kids eventually. No particular reason why other than the fact that I feel like I can be a good father.
7. Are you/do you want to get married?
What the hell, sure.
8. Do you think that a marriage certificate/ceremony is necessary? Or are you of the mind that love, twue wove, doesn't require documentation or demonstration?
I think it's pointless for the most part, but it has financial benefits.
9. Have you realized, yet, just how much work your parents had to do just to raise you and keep you fed?
Yeah.
10. Have you thanked them for it yet?
I have.
11. Did they just chuckle knowingly?
My dad laughed, my mom said something I don't remember at the moment.
12. What was the first nice, expensive, grown up thing you bought? (Ex; a car, a household appliance, a house...)
I bought a futon because sleeping on the floor was starting to get lame.
13. Have you ever found yourself saying/doing/thinking something that you remember distinctly making fun of or disapprove of when you were a kid?
I can't remember anything significant. I mean, I used to hate metal because I saw it as nothing but people yelling and making noise. As of today, about a third or more of my music collection is metal.
14. Have you learned to just let the small stuff go, and take the big stuff in stride? That no bridge can be crossed until you reach it?
Yes. I'm the most laid back person in the history of the universe.
15. Have you learned to do things that you don't want to do without bitching/complaining about it, or even feeling entitled to bitch and complain?
I would say so.
16. Has your taste in music changed over the years? How?
Oh fuck yeah (see question 13). I grew up on rap and R&B, and while I still have a certain fondness for the artists I grew up on, I find the majority of modern rap and R&B post-1997 pretty much unlistenable. Then I started listening to mainstream rock (which I now hate), then moved onto indie rock (which I now find somewhat boring), and now I mainly listen to weird rare shit that spans all genres, though my favorite genre now is probably psychedelic rock. I'm sure I'll be listening to nothing but experimental noise three years from now.
17. Are both of your parents still alive?
Yes.
18. If yes, are you close? If no, were you?
Sort of. Close enough.
19. Do you prefer hardwood floors, or carpet?
I don't care.
20. What do you think your generation will 'be like' when they are elderly?
I don't know. It seems like we'll be more liberal (which I would prefer) but we'll probably turn out lame like the majority of the Sixties Generation did.
21. What do you hope to be like when you are old and gray?
Maybe something like
Jack LaLanne, but less cartoonish and on crack.
22. What is the most important life lesson you have learned so far?
Never sign a financial document (car loan, student loan, credit card application, etc) without knowing EXACTLY what the hell you're getting into. Worrying about it later will fuck you over.
23. What is your favorite food now? What was it when you were 10?
I don't really have one now. Back then it was probably LaRosa's pizza in Cincinnati.
24. Did you do your taxes this year? Did you finish them on time?
Yes to both.
25. Did you owe the gvt, or did you get a fatty tax return? (Or, did you just break even, like I did? :p)
I had four different jobs last year (not counting the freelance work). I got a lot back at two of the jobs and I owed some money for the other two, but I was still in the positives. Just not as much as I wanted to be.
26. Do you enjoy reading? Do you do it often? What is your favorite genre of book? (Mystery, Fiction, Biographies.. etc)
Sure. Fairly often. Fiction, I guess.
27. How do you feel about old animated movies and cartoons being 'digitally remastered'? (Traced over in photoshop and stripped of all hand-animated charm.)
I don't really care, but, to my knowledge, it hasn't happened to anything that I used to like yet.
28. Do you cook? Breakfast? Lunch? Dinner? If yes, what is your favorite dish to prepare?
When I have to. I make some pretty awesome fajitas.
29. Do you partake in politics?
Yeah even though I think politics is bullshit.
30. Do you even have time to worry about governmental goings on, or are you too busy just working for a buck to even notice and/or care?
I can usually keep myself informed enough to have an opinion.
31. Have you graduated from college? If yes, are you currently doing something that involves using the skills you paid so dearly to learn? If no, do you still want to/feel the need to graduate from college, or are you daunted by the amount of people you have met/spoken to who paid thousands of dollars for an education that they can't put to use because there is nothing available for them in the professional working world?
I graduated but am not working in my field currently. I'd like to, but my current job is a little too good to give up at this point in my life. I get paid fairly well for someone my age, plus I have an awesome benefits package (including dental and vision) and a Roth 401(k).
32. Do you have any drug habits? That is to say, are you taking any prescriptions? Smoking weed? Shooting herion? Railing lines up your nose? Caffeine?
Jesus is my only drug. Well, Jesus and heroin, but mostly Jesus. (translation: no)
33. Are you aware of your health? Do you go to the doctor on the regular for check-ups? Do you have high cholesterol, blood sugar, or thyroid problems? Hemorrhoids? (hehe)
I eat fairly well and I run 20-30 miles a week, but I don't go to the doctor unless I feel like I'm going to die.
34. Do you live with another person or other persons? Do you get along? Do you secretly hate their guts? Are they the love of your life?
I live with my girlfriend Jackie and we are perfect. I can't imagine life without her.
35. Do you want to settle down, or remain mobile?
I wouldn't mind moving around until kids came along, then I'd stay in one place.
36. Are there things about yourself that you don't like, but can not/will not change, and/or have learned to accept and live with?
I try to address my most glaring flaws but I can't say that I'm successful all of the time.
37. What do you want to accomplish before you die?
All kinds of stuff. Too many to list.
38. Do you spend the holidays with your parents/family, or do you have a family of your own, now, that you celebrate with?
I usually spend holidays by myself eating frozen pizza, watching football, and hating everything.
39. Are you in debt, yet? (Do you have a mortgage, car payments, student loans to pay off, etc)
Oh yeah. My car is less than two years from being paid off and so are my credit cards if I continue at my current pace. My student loans will take forever. I'm in more debt than all but one person I know, and he had to join the Navy to escape his.
40. Do you feel as though you have accomplished anything significant?
Not really. I'm working on it little by little though. I'm not trying to change the world but I have some things I want to accomplish for myself.
