Casualties and attrition suffered are within acceptable limits for an organisation as large as the EDF.

Nevertheless, experience can be hard to replace.

A military organisation is unlikely to abide by that ideal, with the exception of some specialist personnel.

Even the most hardened military man understands that each subordinate is irreplaceable. We minimize loss, not inconvenience.

Certain military men, perhaps. It is highly plausible that to some EDF superiors, we are just numbers.
