and which little pig are you?

Friday night, at half past midnight, we were just about drifting off to sleep when we heard a REALLY LOUD bang. It sort of sounded like snowplow blade hitting concrete, but much louder. Looking out the window, we discovered a pickup truck in the front yard. Driver (who had really drank far more than was good for him) had taken out a section of fence across the street, then come through uor side fence and smashed into the house. Fortunately hit it right on the corner where its strongest, and fortunately we live in an old solid brick-and-block house. Had it been a wood frame house, or a modern "brick" house which is actually just a thin brick veneer, we would have sustained major damage. Our daughter was sleeping in her bed about 10 feet from the inpact. None of the children woke up (including when the fireman went into Miss Evelyn's room and shone a major flashlight in the corner to check for damage.)

We were outisde chatting with neighbors who had heard the noise and seen the flashing lights and wandered by until 2:00 AM waiting for the truck to be towed away so we could check for damage. Other than some slight chips, the brick is undamaged. The tale of the 3 Little Pigs has an important message for us all.

The driver turns out not to have a license, and the tags that were on the truck don't belong on it. Insurance? Yeah, right. We keep a high deductible on our homeowner's policy, so the fence repairs are coming out of our pockets. Not likely to go over $200, but its still a nuisance. The driver lives right down the street, it would be decent of him to come by and offer to repay us, or at least help with the labor, but I'm not holding my breath.
