I followed every piece of advice everyone said.
No matter how contradictory they were.
I acted nonchalant and caring.
I told the truth but fibbed.
I opened doors and tripped you on the way in.
I stared across the room and turned away in the knick of time.
I ate my words and choked on them.
I swallowed them whole, I still don't feel full.
I changed up everyone's perspective.
I followed the same path I'd been guided to.
I never washed my darks with my lights.
I highlighted all the highs and stood up the lows.
I dialed *67 and still don't care about the cost.
I cut out all the articles, hung them on my wall, and let them rot.
I wrote more catch phrases than thank you letters.
I lost my mind but I still know where my car keys are (right by the door)
Made every bed I slept in, flipped coins at the needy, and Jack Nicholosoned my entire life. Oh, it's a verb.
And all I have left is empty pockets, and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
Pound for pound, I beat Rocky Marciano.
Receiver for receiver, I rusted out these phone lines.
Tear for tear, I could never compete with The Notebook.
Fear for fear, I could never beat spiders or planes.
But if I'd be a scarecrow if I never tried.
My next record will be titled "At Least I Can Say That."
Ripley would worship what I've done.
