lmao I wrote this in math class because..I hate math. Yep.

Mary always made a big deal out of birthdays, when she could remember them. And to date she had almost never forgotten Cameron's. It's one of the things Cam always remembered from when he was younger. Mary would always find some way--normally by bribing the staff--to get into Virginia's house, balancing a homemade Smith Island cake in one hand, and some kind of present in the other.

She'd tiptoe to his room and leave them on his desk for him to see when he woke up in the morning, then quietly slip home before anyone else noticed she was there. Sometimes he'd already be awake when she came, but always pretended to be asleep so as to not hurt Mary's feelings over her ninja skills-- or lack thereof.

It had been a tradition--and Mary was one who held fast to traditions, especially in a time when they were starting to slip. Who paid much attention to tradition anymore? But she had held to it as best she could, even well after Cameron had entered adulthood and become his own state.

Thus, Cameron was only mildly surprised when he woke on the morning of his birthday to discover a Smith Island cake and a small present placed neatly onto the table in his room. His only confusion was with how it had gotten there- - he wasn't that heavy of a sleeper, and Mary...

He glanced down at the sleeping woman, smiling a little. She was a welcomed warmth against his side as she instinctively tightened her arms around his bare waist when he made to sit up. He couldn't recall her getting up at any point during the night, and truthfully it was even stranger that Mary was still asleep at this time. She was a lazy woman, by far, but she rarely slept in past sunrise.

"Dun giddup..." Mary mumbled, voice slurred with sleep. She opened her eyes a little to gaze up at Cameron, and he gave a exasperated smile back, running his fingers through her hair. She gave a sleepy smile back and closed her eyes when he lay back down again.

He pet her hair as she rested her head upon his chest, the sound of his heartbeat lulling her back to sleep within minutes. This was odd too-- once up, Mary normally stayed up; falling back to sleep had always been a bit of a problem for her.

His eyes shifted back to the cake, realization dawning. Mary must have been up most of the night baking for him, so it was no small wonder she was exhausted and intent on keeping him in bed right now. Smiling again, West kissed the top of her head and settled back to nap for a little while longer. Mary would never cease to surprised him, would she.

Cameron chuckled slightly. Well, that was fine, he supposed.

HOLY SHIT WHY IS THIS SO LONG. fail ending is fail because I couldn't think of a good one. So yeah. :C Questions, comments, concerned, any "LOL YOU SUCK"? lmao, just post 'em here then. C:
