She never said no.

He wished she would sometimes. It would make their game a little more fun. The fact that he could always get her to say yes made it less exciting, less climatic when it actually happened. Sure, they had their banter and their barbs at each other, but it would have been nicer if there was a little uncertainty, if he wasn’t sure he’d get his way in the end.

She wished she would say no sometimes. She had tried. God, she had tried so many times. But he was House. And he was brilliant. And he was right. He was always right. Every crazy, deranged thing he wanted to do helped the patient. So how could she say no?

He liked her. He ignored it. He made fun of her and annoyed her and pissed her off. But he recognized the feeling when he was around her. He liked his women strong and brilliant apparently. The ass didn’t hurt too much either.

She liked him. She ignored it. He was her subordinate. He was emotionally closed off. He made fun of her and annoyed her and pissed her off. But she couldn’t stop the increase in heart rate, the flushed skin, when he was around. She liked her men bitter and brilliant apparently. She wore low-cut shirts just so he would notice and call her on it. And she had become incredibly proud of her ass.

The knock on her door pulled her out of bed. Well, not so much a knock as an incessant banging. She knew who it was before she opened the door.

“House, you need to stop coming to my house when I’m in the middle of a date.”

He scoffed and pushed past her. “You’re not in the middle of a date. Though you are in nothing but a bathrobe-characteristic of your dates-no one’s here.”

“You didn’t know that before you barged in,” she growled, closing the door.

He chuckled. “Yes I did.”

She rolled her eyes. He probably did. His instincts were always strong and usually right.

“What do you want House?”

“I wanted to tell you the surgery went well. He’s all stitched up and should be going home tomorrow.”

“SO pick up a phone. Shoot me an email. Stop coming to my house at midnight.”

He stepped closer to her and smirked. “You like it.”

She did. Of course she did. There his instincts went being right again. She’d never admit it; she’d keep up their game as long as he did. But as she looked up at his stubbled jawline, she could think of no scathing reply to send his way.

“House, go to bed.”

“Sure, which way’s the bedroom?”

She rolled her eyes.

Before her eyes had resituated themselves in their sockets, his lips were on hers. He was kissing her and his tongue was coaxing her mouth open. She let him in, let him invade her. When they broke apart she was gasping for air.

She just stared at him.

“House. You just kissed me.”

“I seem to have, haven’t I?”

“And this means…”

“Well see, when two people kiss it means their lips touch. If it’s fun, their tongues do too.”

“You know what I mean.”

“Oh, you mean you want to talk about feelings? Because we’re not doing that.”

“What are we doing?”

“I’m not certain, but I think we’re kissing again.”

“Yeah?”

“If that’s all right with you.”

She never said no.
