They called him ‘Bucking Horse’. And the skylark couldn’t see why.
For the boy, boundless as he is, was never as free as the horse. He could go wherever he wanted, when he wanted. The lark could only reside in this room, this city, since -no matter how boundless he is- his wings were not strong enough to take off. Not yet.
At first, it was only battles. The horse was a strong opponent when accompanied by his men and the cloud wanted to make him crawl and beg like all the others herbivores. To prove that he was stronger.
Then it was jealousy. Jealousy of his freedom. Which turned into anger and, somewhere along the line, lust. The battles were refreshing- finally someone that he could fight against and improve! What happened behind closed doors released all of the stress that the crowding herbivores induced.
He could never explain their relationship. He doesn’t want to- the cloud is afraid. Afraid of what it would cause or of the emotions it brought. Because a carnivore doesn’t need anyone. Emotions like ‘love’, ‘friendship’ and ‘admiration’ were -are- for the weak. And the skylark is. Not. Weak.
The boy moved towards the window and looked at his wristwatch before turning to the scenery outside.
‘He is late.’ A lone thought that stood among the others.
Why should he care? He wasn’t worried. Ah, yes! He cared because the other was late and that’s against the rules.
He heard the doorknob being turned, the door moving.
“You are late,” the boy noted from his position from the window. “Shall I discipline you? I’ll bite you to death.”
The skylark just wanted to prove that he is more powerful than the horse. That’s why he cared. He was the one who would -will- bite the horse to death. He didn’t feel anything towards the other. For the boy, he was nothing more than a convenient toy. Or so he told -yelled, lied- to himself…
Sometimes... the Cloud guardian forgets that he is human.
