Confessions of a Speed Creature

I like fast bikes. Always have, always will. My first bike was a 1986 YX600, which technically makes it the great granduncle of the R6. And I could get that little sucker up to 130 and she still had room to run. My current ride is a 1997 ZX-6E, and I'm looking to upgrade to either a Speed Triple or Daytona 955i ( Read more... )

I'd kill for a '78, '79 KZ650 in great condition. Problem is that when I DO see them now, they are going for 3K plus. I've never paid more than $1200 for one before.

So sad.

The old KZ's are by far my favorite. I've always wanted an old KZ1000 to do the whole Mad Max customization thing with.

I've had a few people tell me recently they've been looking for used beginner bikes, but they're all being sold at ridiculous prices. I mean, look at this. I only paid $500 for my Radian and put about $100 into it to get it rideable.

Oh fuck no. That bike isn't worth that. Geesh!

I have had KZ650's and 1000's. I love them.

But the with the prices they are charging for them now, I'd almost go with the new Ducati that came out this year (I'm short so I need lower bike) or *gasp* that new Harley that came out this year. Both I believe come in under 10K with taxes and they are BRAND NEW UNDER WARRANTY!

He'll still probably get about half of what he's asking for it, too. *shakes head*

I think your best bet for an old KZ1000 would be a police auction. Same guy I mentioned earlier got a police KZ for $300- THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS!- from a surplus auction. All it needed was $100 worth of electrical bits and a few repair parts. Lucky bastard...

Ducati? MOOOOAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH- noooo, Street Triple >:)

The Speed Triple 955 is about $6K- if I can come up with half, I can finance the other half (paying off student loans + impending grad school = equivalent of at least two bike payments. :P)

Have to fully agree... I'd LOVE to find a brand new CB360.... nothing would make me happier... perhaps we should let Honda know...

I think this might be the call to fill the gap between the Nighthawk 250 and the 599. Although the naked GS500 is still my favorite sub-middleweight.

I bet even something like a 400cc sportbike (CBR400?) would sell like hotcakes. Same with a ~400cc standard with the sportbike engine in it.

Bandit 400? Honda 399? Yamaha FZ4?

Hell, if they just rereleased the 500 Interceptor, they wouldn't even need to retool anything...

Ever ridden a VFR400? They're tiny. You sit on the damn thing and it vanishes. Not astonishingly fuel efficient either, sadly.

These bikes exist though - Bandit 400, SV400, CBR400, ZXR400, FZR400, VFR400, GSXR400, Fazer 400. They just seem to only sell them in Japan.

Damn shame, really.
