Emusic and More

Dec 24, 2008 09:59

Haven't had a chance to listen to all of my Emusic so far this month, but I have checked out the Stars' Sad Robot EP a couple of times. It's an interesting mix of cold electronic with lively piano and strings. The first track on the EP is an ambient one, and I find that I lose myself within the layers of music when I listen. Thumbs up for writing tuneage, but not as effective for behind-the-wheeling.

Sentimental sucker that I can be, I finished downloading the Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack by Vince Guaraldi. I do dig the jazz interpretations, and it's very comforting at the same time.

I first saw Phosphorescent open for the Decemberists way back in 2003 at the Caledonia, a bar and stage that's smaller than some folks' garages. I bought their/his first album that evening, and now, in 2008, I'm finally caught up with the catalog. I have only managed fleeting listens to The Weight of Flight, Aw Come Aw Wry, and Pride. We'll see how they turn out post-holidays.

Also picked up the free Redeye 2008 Holiday Sampler, which was a mixed affair, as such things tend to be. Can't complain too much when the price is so damned good.

Chelovek is still going well, but the holiday season has not been kind. Klatovy II will be going with me from Pennsylvania to Georgia. I'm hoping for opportunities to write and but am prepared to make them if the universe doesn't comply.

Happy Holidays to all! Hope y'all enjoy time with family and friends.
