I KNOW IT'S MY DES-TIN-EEEEE~
So I was walking my dog earlier today and contemplating the massive re-reading I have been doing of PokeSpe, both for RP purposes and because I just effing love this manga and it makes me so happy in every conceivable way. And I came to the realization that I have a lot of wacky headcanon for this series, as well as the most silly mass of tangled ships in any fandom ever. So I thought I'd share some with you all today!
AS AN ASIDE, WHYYYYY DON'T I OWN HEARTGOLD/SOULSILVER YET SOB
~I like to mentally compare anime!Giovanni (or what I remember of him, having only ever seen five/six episodes of the anime and the first two movies to form my entire understanding of anime canon) and PS!Giovanni a lot. It seems to me that anime!Gio's a lot flatter and more stereotypically villainous - he's all dark and mysterious, doesn't say much in the way of original things (BLAH BLAH BLAH TEAM ROCKET BLAH POWER BLAH - does he even speak all that much? From what I remember, most of his scariness came from his hardly talking) and is generally personality-less. Whereas PS!Gio is a genius (HE KNOWS HOW MANY SECONDS IT WOULD TAKE FOR HIM TO KICK YOUR ASS. NOT THAT MANY.), a ruthless leader - but not one that makes pointless sacrifices if it's inefficient, able to hide his ebilness beneath a facade of Obfuscating Normalcy (herp derp hey Red I am just a dude who likes fossils derp) and generally actually having a personality in general.
BUT ANYWAY SO: I was rereading Red and Giovanni's first fight, the one where Giovanni's like IF YOU LOSE YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FOR ME AT MY SIDE, and it hit me! Giovanni was looking for Red to be a son replacement for Silver because he still thought Silver was dead at this point omg omg D'8 AND THIS SUDDENLY EXPLAINS A LOT OF HIS WEIRD MIXED FRIEND/ENEMY SIGNALS TO RED THROUGHOUT THE REST OF THE SERIES OMFG ;~~~~;
~Speaking of Giovanni and Silver, it bothers me that we don't know who his mother is or where she is or what happened to her. MY SECRET THEORY IS THAT JESSIE IS HIS OLDER SISTER. and shut up, I know we're not supposed to cross the anime and manga-verses, but I can't resist bringing Jessie and James into PokeSpe. Although I suppose their complete ineffectiveness wouldn't actually fit, what with everyone being extremely competent and badass in this canon.
~I think Norman and Crystal's mom should get together, solely to keep them away from children forever. ACTUALLY, MAYBE THEY HAD AN AFFAIR! AND MAYBE THE PRODUCT OF THAT UNION WAS EMERALD! AND MAYBE CRYSTAL'S MOM TIED EMERALD'S FEET TOGETHER LIKE OEDIPUS AND THREW HIM INTO THE WOODS AND THAT'S WHY HE'S SO SHORT! AND - and oh god that explains his weird mommy complex with Crystal HALTING THIS TRAIN OF THOUGHT.
~I've been shipping Silver/Yellow really hard lately for some reason. They've got the Viridian connection, the Lance connection ("Oh hey, I defeated that guy!" "Oh, really? I work for him! He's less of a dick now." "Oh, that's great..."), and that really shippy scene in FR/LG when she was all ~helping him find his father~ and then Sird and Orm were like LOL WE HAS YOUR SILVER and Yellow was like oh bitch no you didn't and they practically crapped their pants trying to run out of there and etc. I'm a big fan of that scene. actually, I'm a big fan in general of Silver's tendency to be in distress and have awesome ladies rescue him :3
