in the previous episode I was all like "no, jack, it's hurley! he's the only people person around! I want hurley to 'win!'" but then when it happened I felt bad for him instead

While I was watching the ending I suddenly thought of the 1984 movie "Places in the Heart," a mostly gritty story of racism and poverty in the Depression era south, which ends with a tacked-on supernatural ending of a similar sort. I don't think it ever feels right as an ending.
