All in all, I'd say I had an awesome weekend.
Got to go to Spavinaw on Friday and they still hate me there. Wrestling show was great. It's funny how this little-fed-that-could has become something wonderful, drawing more and more people in their once-a-month shows. I hope that lasts through the summer. After the show, a bunch of us went to the American Legion bar down the street from the high school (Isn't there supposed to be some rule about proximity of schools and bars? Or maybe that's just strip clubs and schools...) and listen to the locals sing karaoke. My sisters like to do karaoke. I hope they do it better than these people did. It was scary. Anyway, 4 of the wrestlers who were there had the title belts with them and proceded to play quarters with the caveat that you had to bounce the quarter off the title belt and into the stein of beer to win. I only stayed about 30 minutes and I guess I missed out on some interesting drunken antics after I left.
Saturday started with a long choir retreat in the morning and my voice was still strained from yelling at fans the previous night. So that was a bit of an exercise in futility. But I left there and got to go to the TDWVS meeting and see "The Next Doctor". And the person who brought me the disc had used her new DVD burner which allows you to make "labels" that are etched onto the top of the disc. It's uber-cool. I guess you can also do them in colour, but she didn't bring that one (which is fine). Now, as far as the story goes, I thought David Morrisey was very cool as "The Doctor". Rosita didn't have much to do. And some of the visuals and plot points were amusing (Morrisey's TARDIS being a balloon is probably the best.). My biggest compliment is that, after 2 years of incredibly depressing endings for the Christmas story, we finally get one that doesn't shove the "lonely man" aspect of the Doctor in our face. My least favourite aspect of the story: I think RTD had been watching a bit too much Robotech which led to the CyberKing. Just a bit too silly for my tastes.
I went home and watched Sanctuary. How is it that a Amanda Tapping can be so interesting in the SG franchise and yet so abominably boring in this? And I keep wondering why I don't like this series that much. I mean, it's got vampires and I'm a huge mark for anything vampire-y. And there was a cool episode with the little creatures that reproduced like Tribbles. But overall, it's been very unentertaining. Maybe it won't be picked up for a second season and I won't have to feel compelled to watch it.
Wen to a wrestling show Saturday night and all the drama that I mentioned in my post about why I don't understand 20-something-year-old women was still there. True to her word, Sara didn't show up....until after the show was over. And then she wouldn't say much to me and refused to come out and eat with a bunch of us after the show. Meanwhile Cayde wouldn't talk about what happened between them, so I can't even try to suggest a solution. Dinner was nice though, as I got to talk to the ring announcer for the first time. She's a tiny thing and drank 4 Coronas without eating any food. I'm sure we can all see where that was leading to. Not knowning her particularly well, I don't know if her constant stream of babble was due to the alcohol or was just a normal part of her personality. She did tell say on Friday, though, that she needed to get up and move as she has "ADD in the legs", so there's something unique about her.
Sunday I watched the series finale of Stargate Atlantis. I thought it was a much better finale than they did for Stargate SG1. That was all contemplative and depressing. This was slam-bang action and is how a series finale should be (like most of the Star Trek finales were). I was disappointed that they didn't leave Ronon dead, not because I dislike the character or the actor, but because it took all the meaning away from his death scene. Ronon, Worf, D'Argo from Farscape...they're all warriors and they all deserve a warrior's death. Only D'Argo got it. I also had this feeling that the episode would have benefitted somehow from being a 2-hour ep instead of a standard one hour. Or maybe even an hour and a half. It felt rushed in places.
Went to Stacy's house Sunday night to watch 3 eps of Ghost Whisperer. We also surfed Facebook for pieces of Flair to send to people, including each other. I wish I could do that on my computer at home, but it's like working with stone knives and bear skins.
And that brings me to today. My horoscope said that it was a 3-star day, which is usualy bad for me. Typically, things do pretty well wrong on all days except 5-star ones, so I'm expecting Monday to be in full bloom.
