I have to really justify buying single issues before I do because I hate having to store them somehow. With Grant Morrison's JLA: Classified run, I figured it's only 3 issues they won't put into a trade, and it'll be in like a year if DC ever gets around to it. The story is excellent though (an excellent JLA story, that is) and Morrison proves ( Read more... )

Oh, I think Morrison proved that with We3. I haven't seen the JLA: Classified run - what's it about?

As far as individual issues goes, I actually prefer them to the books. I think it might just be because I worked in a bookstore all summer, and I get chills down my spine anytime there's any damage to the book spines. It's also harder to express the two-page spreads when you have to resign yourself to either opening the book reaaaaally wide or not being able to see everything you're meant to. I think, when next I have money and go to the comic store, I might get one of the long boxes and store my single issues that way.

I listen to Comic Geek Speak, and while I love comics, I cant' stand the idea of someday storing things I might like to read in 10-20 longboxes and having to go search for and untape/bag issues just to read a storyline like some of those guys do. A line of trades just looks better on a shelf and is much easier to pick out and read or lend to someone. Your point is well taken on the two-page spreads, which is very noticeable in Bendis' work with the panel layouts that go across two pages left to right as though they were a single page. Even so, I still prefer having Ultimate Spider-Man as hardcovers because they just read better that way. Serenity and JLA: Classified and some others I just buy as issues because I doubt they'll be trades. The other books I get are just because I like them too much to wait ( ... )

Maybe I just like the bags 'cause it makes me feel more hardcore and part of a mostly-boys-club. ;)

Baaah. I like chest-thumping angst sometimes - especially if it's Wonder Woman's chest. Rowwwr. The current wrap-ups have been a little tedious, but I'm thinking that this month's releases are almost all "We are holding our breath and hoping that Geoff Johns will do the Crisis justice!!" kinda things.

Also, Gorilla Grodd is silly. But if I find it, I'll remember to check it out some time - it sounds cool. Either that, or I should kill you and steal your comic books.

I'd like to think I "outgrew" my bags and boards collector phase back in the early 90's... Those were dark times then with everyone buying #1's of interminably retarded plotless miniseries with 3 foil-embossed variant covers and Image comics was putting out 3 new books a month with some flashy artist drawing huge breasted women with floss bikinis. To think back and imagine anyone thought that stuff was worth collecting has scarred me pretty deeply ( ... )

I'm not so sure about Johns. Reading his run for The Flash for the Countdown is really subpar. I mean, I know he didn't invent the notion of the time-travelling treadmill... but it's not one, but TWO time-travelling treadmills.

And hoorah! This sounds totally like an excuse to visit (comixxx!)
