It's A Heat Wave. And Yet...
I Haven't Done Anything Summery

So hot~. This heat wave is really something. My trick for dealing with the heat is to work up a sweat. I don't like putting on the air conditioner at home, so I get really sweaty. At night, too. So I wash my sheets a lot. They dry right away in the heat, after all. Passing my days like this, here's what I've been up to, bit by bit, as I think of it.

Come to think of it, I haven't really done anything summery. I haven't had enough time off to go on a trip, but in the one or two days I do get, I've just been renting DVDs, going to the supermarket, taking walks, normal daily stuff like that. Right now I'm watching Director Kim Ki-duk's DVDs. He works on a low budget and films in a short time, and when I met him on "Chonan Kan 2" (Fuji TV) I'd only seen his movie "Utsusemi" ('04). So, I decided that I wanted to watch all of his works when I had time. "Warui otoko" ('01), "Warui onna ~aoi mon~" ('98), and "Samaria" ('04) were particularly interesting. [1]

In terms of work, I'm doing my best on "SMAPxSMAP" (Fuji TV)! Singing, cooking, throwing pottery-- us members of SMAP have to do all sorts of things, it's so tough (laugh). This is my fourth time using the pottery wheel, and it's getting thinner with each try, so I think I'm getting better. I've got all the pieces I made before at home. Though... I'm not using them. I take them out sometimes, but they really stick out compared to other dishes. Most of my dishes are all white, after all. If anyone wants them, I might give them away (laugh).

I've got various new CMs out, as well, but doing the NTT East Japan one with Nakai-kun was interesting. There were all sorts of scripts, like versions where I'd tease him, and we did a lot of filming. In lots of places, too, like the elevator one that's playing now, one where we're going into the studio, one where we're talking backstage, and so on. The producer was the type who really focuses on the pauses between lines, so we shot over and over the whole day through. Among those, the 30-second version that's on now was actually Nakai-kun's idea. Before filming, he told me "Hey, just call me by my name here," so, wondering if it would turn out okay, I said "Nakai, you're doing this kind of job, too?" to which the punchline was "Did you call me Nakai just now?" It turned out interesting enough that they decided to use it. What did I practice all these lines for, then~? But, it was fun working on short skit-like pieces with Nakai-kun again.

And now for an update on the computer from last time. Umm... I still haven't opened it. I haven't set up my email at all. It's still exactly as Shingo left it, not even turned on. I wonder if it'll break down if I just leave it charging and don't use it. I did buy an instruction book. An introductory book that Shingo told me was pretty easy to understand. But it's super thick, and just looking at the first page, I decided to read it the next day and left it as is. No good, no good. It's because I'm not being driven to do it out of necessity. I said I wanted to put songs on my iPod myself, but I ended up asking the management to do it again. The computer has the newest super-awesome software on it, and it's even got a camera, it's such a waste. I've got to go about it like I'm seriously gonna change myself. This summer isn't over until I sit down and face my Mac like a man. ...Probably.
