Firefly apocafic 1
It was a good day.
They'd completed a succesful job and now could relax for a few days. They were flying towards one of their usual hideouts, a nice place far away.

After dinner, zoey and wash dissapeared and inara retreated to her shuttle. Mal followed soon after
what for was anyone's guess.

Jayne was missing but nobody actually missed hiim.

In the common room of Serenity were Simon,River and Kaylee, enjoying cups of tea. Actual, original, tea, thanks to this last job.

Kaylee had been telling them about her home planet and her family. It had been a long time since she'd seen or heard them and she missed them fiercely.

River was having a good, lucid day and had added some stories of growing up in the tam state.

Somehow, the topic turned to Earth-That-Was and what little they knew of it. Mistery and legend surrounded their planet of origin.

"I heard that after the ships left, the whole planet went kaboom! It's there no more. Just a legend"
Said Kaylee

Simon and River laughed, more at how Kaylee told it than at the story itself

"I once read" started River, causing Simon to roll her eyes teasing her "that the culture that remains today it's only a fraction, less than 5% of all the culture of Earth-that-was." She paused to give them time to process
" Great works of art were lost in the evacuation. Almost all books except those they carry inside their heads"

Simon remembered the book river was referring to. Another one of Earth-that-was' unofficial stories, Triumph of the Terraformers by Wu Baifang. It was regarded as complete fiction but river had always loved it and considered the real story. And maybe it was. Who knew what the alliance was hiding.

"I can't believe some of the stories out there! They're too fantastic" said simon "There's stories of aliens and conspiracies and ignored warnings. Most of them are batshit crazy, but I've also hear some good ones, even if they are completely false" he finished.

"Well, of course an educated man like yourself must know some great and sad stories" said kaylee, smiling

"Simon, tell us a story of Earth-That-Was" begged River

"Do you know what happened? To the planet?" Kaylee asked

"No, I don't" he said "to be honest, I've never been too interested in the subject, just heard stories around bonfires and the like"

"So tell us" asked River once again

"Ye,please" begged Kaylie "one of this great-yet-completely-false stories" she added

"I don't remember them very well" he started "but I'll try"

He cleared his throat and took the last sip of his tea before beginning

"Once upon a time there was a great world known as Earth. It hosted the most amazing race in the universe: human beings.
They explored every inch of their world and made great advancement on many sciences. Then they set out to discover the universe, wanting to know if there truly was life out there. Their first expeditions were unsuccesful, all the planets in their system seemed dead. They traveled further then, not willing to give up. And they did find a world that seemed capable of life only there wasn't any. It was empty or maybe they had seen them coming and had hidden. Confused, many wanted to stay and explore. But at last they left, moved onto other planets.

After several travels they had yet to find an inhabited one. By this point they were sure aliens were simply hiding but didn't know why. It wasn't until they met a person in one of this planets that they understood. This people were afraid.long ago there had been a big evil that had threatened to destroy them but he had been defeated and not hear froM since. But before he dissapeared he swore revenge.
The people had been under his thumb for so long they couldn't truly enjoy their freedom, they were always too afraid he'd come back.

Who told them this was not a local, but the very man who defeated thi Great Evil, whose name was never pronounce on this land.

This man, who gave no name, warned them to be careful. He gave them a disk with info, which planets to go and which to avoid and info on protocol and such. 'Not much' he'd said 'cause otherwise there's no fun, but enough to get by'
He told them to follow it not to get into trouble and so they wouldn't attract attention. With some luck they wouldn't be threatened by any of the great evils that walked around the universe.

A/N: I had planned for a Doctor Who/Firefly crossover, albeit a rather subtle one. but my attention got distracted.
