Today I saw Dollhouse, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Doctor Who and Primeval.
It's weird/sad to say that Doctor Who was the least exciting of them all.
Dollhouse:
This episode made me realise how accustomed I've grown to Dollhouse and it's only the ninth ep. and it's not 'til recently that I really fell for it.
There were so many things happening in this ep. so many reveals. so many twist. so many wtf moments.
Let's go by characters.
Dr. Claire Saunders: It surprised me to learn she hasn't left the Dollhouse since the Alpha incident.
I had Topher for the workaholic who never leaves. which I still mantain he is, but it's very interesting to learn Saunders is always around, too. even if it is for different reasons
It's funny, yesterday I had this idea for a fic, about Claire and Topher and workaholism. (is that a word?) Now it's been jossed but I spent a while tweaking it to make it work.
She clearly feels safe in the Dollhouse even though it's in there where the incident happened. and it puts what she said to Boyd in the last ep in a whole new light. she said that Echo wasn't leading them into freedom but into a world of danger and terror that would break them. now it seems she was also talking about herself. perhaps it's because even though she was attacked in the Dollhouse, now Alpha is out there. in the world. out there she can't be protected. in the Dollhouse there's always security. cameras, people. they're not infalible, but it's better than nothing. even if she has no reason to think Alpha's gonna come after her.
Topher: we don't find out much about him in this ep. he trusts Boyd, but we already knew that. he didn't like Dominic, we knew that too.
He doesn't seem to have any sort of ethical problem with what they do. we knew that too.
Adelle: She was a surprise. the idea of her using an active for herself had occured to me,but I didn't think she was Miss Lonelyheart. not even when 'Roger' showed up speaking in his posh british accent.
I have two different theories about him.
a) He is modeled after someone she loved and lost or b)She designed her perfect man and decided Victor was a good body for him.
or it could be c) a mix of both.
if it is a), I am quite curious as to who was Roger originally and what happened to him.
and how did it occur to her to use a Doll? is there any rules about it?
how long has she been using him? was she using someone else before?
I was very surprised when she began to cry. She's always so cold,so tough.
I think she really values the Dolllhouse. she really values her work and the people in it. and I do think she was hurt by Dominic's betrayal.
I like how we've been slowly getting glimpses of her, her personality and all. and how when she finds out about Echo's development, she doesn't want to wipe her or send her to the attic. she's curious about her. I think that's very important.
Paul: he now knows Mellie is a Doll but he has to keep up the rouse. except he doesn't know the mole inside has been caught so he'll continue to wait for instructions.
how long can he keep pretending though? and how will this affect his quest, knowing that he nows has to save Millie/November,too?
Dominic: so he was sent to protect the Dollhouse from itself?
but what exactly was the plan? why help Paul bring it down? how did he know how to program the Dolls? did someone else help him?
was it really him or is there another mole?
I'm thinking maybe the NSA wanted the Dollhouse exposed to the public so they could take over, not the people, but the technology.
Still, I assume Dominic's dislike of Echo was personal, not part of the mission.
Boyd: he's not head of security, but he hasn't severed his connection to Echo.how will this affect his work? does he believe the spy has been caught? will he look at everyone more closely now? he seemed to immediately suspect Dr Saunders.
I wonder if Topher will be able to recover the hidden programmings. or if they'll find out that Paul knows Millie's a Doll.
What will Adelle do know to,um, blow off steam? is Topher gonna be more careful?more suspicious?
copy and paste from my whedonesque comment:
I made a post about the ep last night after seeing it and now I come here and after reading all the posts, I've ended up quite possibly more confussed.
As soon as I heard about the attic-ing, I thought of the Dementor's kiss. good to know I wasn't the only one.
I liked the Torchwood shout-out.Tosh is my favourite.I'm still pretty bitter about the finale.
My theories about Roger:
Roger was someone Catherine lost when she became Adelle and uses the Dollhouse to recover him even though this Roger is only a 'living photocopy.'
Also,I don't think Dominic's betrayal is the only reason she stopped. before it happened, she was saying things like "I want the real you" and at one point it seemed she wanted to tell him he was a doll. so I think the relationship between Roger and Catherine was becoming too real, she wanted more and that made her realise how dangerous it was and how she had to stop. because the Dollhouse was in trouble, she'd been distracted and the Dollhouse must be her priority.
I think she wanted in a way to feel the pain, to remember it, because she needs to be stronger and she shouldn't feel anything.
she made a mistake, she punishes herself, she moves on,being tougher, more stoic. more ice queen.
She is now fairly high on my list of favourite characters. She and Topher are fighting for the first spot.
While I do think Adelle and Dominic were rather close,I just don't see much romance in there
IMO,Echo wasn't imprinted. the whole point for her is that she is ,in topher's words, evolving, as Echo, not Caroline coming through but Echo is gaining a new personality.
Alpha isn't pulling strings from everywhere.he can't.
Re:Caroline. she spend two years running from the Dollhouse, from rossum. At least that's what Adelle said I think she must've done stuff in that time that left her no choice but o join the dollhouse
About Claire. LOVED the detail of her not leaving the dollhouse.(oh,god the bunnies! they're attacking me)
Also,I think what she said about the last ep, about Echo leading the dolls into "a world of hatred and fear that would destroy them" was her referring to herself. she feels safe in the Dollhouse, in its controlled enviroment.
besides,Alpha hurt her but didn't kill her and he could have. he must've had a reason not to. I don't think Alpha is gonna come after her again. I don't think she does either, but she is still scared. and I don't think it's just Alpha, I think something else has happened to her, something bad and Alpha just renewed previous fears.
Dom- is he the only mole? at first I thought so,now I'm not so sure. I don't think he could've done the programming on his own. we'll have to wait and see if paul gets moremessages
it could be that someone else was using the chip without his knowledge
In the beginning, when Echo and Sierra are watching, there's a big stain of blood in the window. it doesn't fit Adelle's reaction, she doesn't even fall down. that is so far my onnly complaint.
The Sarah Connor Chronicles
This episode was Epic. yes, with a capital E.
Sarah's in jail and a new government agent has been introduced to her crazy world. I don't believe he believes her but after Cameron's stunt, he might start.
We finally found out what Catherine Weaver is.
She isn't good or bad, she's an independent.
like on BSG. you had the humans. the cavil!faction of Cylons who wanted to kill all humans and the let's call them Caprica!faction of Cylons who wanted to make peace, live together.
In TSCC there's the skynet faction who wants to kill all humans, the humans and the weaver faction who don't want all the humans dead and who do want to stop skynet.
Cameron has been acting strangely. but she is a machine. so I can't help but wonder if she's following her own interests or following future!john's instructions. I mean, a machine like her definitely has a certain amount of independence. but how much? like that submarine mission. was it her giving the order or was it John? and why give John Henry her chip? was that the plan? was it her way of joining them? and why did JH run away?
and of course, how's the timeline changed now that John's jumped to the future? will he still become a leader? send his dad back into the past?
what about Sarah? what is she going to do?
I think this episode closed down some arcs while opening completely new ones.
and I need to watch again cause the details are slipping from my mind.
I think that now John is in the future, he's gonna try and convince to begin using machines. but how? he doesn't know how to program them. the only way is to work with Weaver and JH.
and they need machines. is he gonna be able to do it? will he let his feelings get in the way? I'm guessing that girl was the real Allison. Is he gonna start something with her? some sort of wish fulfillment for Cameron?
Damn, there are so many questions. I really, really, need a 3rd season.
Doctor Who.
It was good. it was fun. but it wasn't awesome.
I did like Michelle Ryan's character.
I liked the mention of Donna.
I was surprised at the low mortality rate.
I felt very sad and rather angry at the Doctor for being so dumb and still think he should travel alone. I understand he doesn't want to get hurt anymore but still, he'll never be happy. and he can certainlybe miserable all by himself.
Primeval:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
CUTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He wasn't my favourite but I still can't believe it!!!
Helen killed him! bitch!
dumb Cutter! why did you have to go back in?!
It's not fair! he and claudia brown never got a chance!!
I'm not sure Connor's ready for all this responsability!
More when I've read reviews and rewatched.
sorry about the failed cut. stupid scribefire.
