Talking to Emily G last night, I realized that I'd finally gotten to "I'm done" with Oberlin. This isn't to say that I'm blase or depressed or anything, I'm just realizing, more than ever, that it's time to move on--I'm starting to feel stagnant here, and that might be just because I'm performing less than I have since I came, but there it is. I mean, at Emily's prodding, I had a really good time last night: I went to a couple of nice smaller parties, one of which Ted Rees was DJ'ing (which is nice even if you don't dance a step), and spent some time at that playground on Pleasant where nothing innocent can ever happen.
At the same time, I've been really pleased with the progress I've made in music: I'm actually reading Meet the Residents for my paper (they were total hippies! I knew it!) and I've been listening to a lot of old/new people I should know about, but don't. (I really like Huggy Bear for both their earnestness and their presentation--every time I type their name I write 'Hugge Bear' first, which probably shows that I have a lot of Swedish stuff on the mind). My favorites are Lefty Frizzell, who is like male Patsy Cline with more backup singers and less sadness, and that song "Trill" which I wanted because of the name but ended up liking because of the song.
