Sometimes I think maybe, just maybe, there is some agent for cosmic justice, at least on a very small scale.

I walked over to the bank this afternoon, and on my way back, I saw a girl, maybe 10 years old, on a bike that was much, much too large for her. It was kind of funny to watch her, in an "Aww, that's cute" sort of way, as she struggled to get going with any kind of speed. Well, at the same time from the other direction, a boy, maybe 14 or 15 years old, with no room to be teasing anyone about goofy appearances, rode past and let out sort of a derisive snort at the girl.

I hate casual cruelty. Even if the girl didn't hear it, there's no call for making fun of her. Especially not if your helmet's too big for your head and between the braces and the acne you're no fine specimen yourself.

So, not fifty feet later, the boy skids to a stop on his bike and I hear a "clunk!". I turn around, and the chain's come loose on his bike, so he tosses the bike on the ground and kicks it.

What goes around, comes around, I guess.
