[he stares at the ink that just appeared on the paper in front of him. So the glowing wasn't just his imagination-- he shouldn't be so surprised, really! But...
It's only one word, but. The style of those characters...
[a weird day just got weirder and more complicated and more convoluted. He actually lets out a short sigh through his nose before taking to the pages again]
Something weird going on here. Is there sand? Check now - might change.
I'm by a sapling. Shinshuu, looks like. Let me know when you figure yourself, I'll pick you up.

[the writing stops there... and slowly, the end of the half-finished character begins to grow a black spot as if ink was seeping into paper from a pen being held still against it]
[has to catch up to read those characters, and get past the way the slur together a bit. This script he has more practice reading, though. After a short pause, he gets it and writes, a bit briskly himself.]
Konohana. Kamiki, I think?
Be there soon. Picked up a straggler - young woman - may be others. We'll get to you quick as we can.
It... It's like everyone just got up and left all of a sudden! I looked around and all doors are open and things are scattered around the fields-- even laundry!
[A few moments after that, nothing except ink seeping into paper again and a few squiggly lines.. then-]
...and I don't see a single person. It.. it really looks like this place got... completely abandoned.
It's only one word, but. The style of those characters...
What?

Damn it damn it damn--]
Where are you?

...no. No, there's no doubt about it now. Except he's not sure whether to be relieved or not.
A few moments pass before he continues writing, slightly bigger this time but just as close to the characters above.]

O-okay..? There.. there's sand, yes! And water and...
...and a giant orange on a roof.

[...then, finally,]
Toldja.

Then gives that orange another look.]
...
I wonder if it's real.

Giant orange, then. Landmark? Sounds like one of the outer villages - not too far?

But when the writing resumes, the characters appear quickly as if scribbled down in a sudden almost-clumbsy hurry]
Kamo! Kamo, I can see Konohana! You know what they told us, the mother Sapling and--
This must be the village where they always hold the festival!

Then, just as quickly, but nowhere near as clumbsy-]
Do you know if that woman is from the village?
Reply
Didn't ask her.
[Why do you ask?, lies the undernote of question in the careful, slow formation of those characters.]
