Character: Amaterasu or Ami, alo Shiranui
Timeline: After Okami and after Okamiden
Personality: She has the grace of the goddess that she is, and has the wisdom of a loving mother. Ami is gentle and compassionate to all creatures unless provoked, but even for those who seek to harm her, she shows compassion in the end. She can sense those who are good and worthy of protection and those who seek to harm others and destroy the world. Ami is not all knowing, there have been times where her trust in someone was completely misplaced. She would rather find out for herself if people are truly as others might say they are. Of course in doing this, Ami has gotten herself into trouble, even if she wasn’t completely aware of the dangers at first. To show that she is a life bringer and a pure spirit, wherever Amaterasu steps, flowers and grass sprout and grow in each place her paws land, like the Buddha where when he would step, a lotus would grow.
Amaterasu is a skilled fighter, nimble and resilient. She fights tooth and claw but also fights with the Divine Instruments and the Celestial Brush techniques she has learned during her long life. Although she is a grand fighter, Ami would rather not use violence to settle matters at hand. She would prefer to only fight when it is absolutely necessary. She will also not hesitate to protect those she is close to and who are innocent. She has even been known to get in the way of a blow for someone. Being a Goddess from another realm, she is never really up to date with the technologies and issues of those living on the mortal plain. So most people that she meets think she is just a slow beast and often times, she’s fine with them thinking those things. She really has no need to keep in touch with them, let the mortal fuss with it. She also has slight ADD, if someone is talking too much, her mind might wander or she’ll simply doze off in the middle of their talking. She has her own way of communicating though, through body language, simple canine sounds (and possibly even mental touching as other Gods have been known to do, but she has never used it).
