I have written fic! Good news: it's several hundred words longer than anything I've written (well, written and posted) for a while. Bad news: it's for a Japanese New Wave film from 1960.

...Yeah.

I REGRET NOTHING.

First, let me explain that there is/was a mini-genre of taiyouzoku or 'Sun Tribe' films, about hedonistic young people discontent with Japanese society. I wouldn't enjoy watching most of them, and you probably wouldn't either.

However, Kyounetsu no Kisetsu is different! For one thing, it has a great, great soundtrack. JAZZ, BABY. *sunglasses* For another, it has frankly amazing editing: boom, boom, boom. It's like the editor is hitting you in the face with awesome. Third, it's basically a satire of taiyouzoku films in general. The camera spends a ridiculous amount of time focusing on the sun, as if to say WE KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE DOING HERE. AND YOU SHOULD TOO. GET IT? GET IT? Later on in the film, there's even a scene where some bohemian artist (whom I have named 'Shinji' for some reason) goes up to our main character, Akira, and rhapsodizes about how his eyes show discontent with modern society, etc. And then Akira punches him in the face.

The basic story of the film is that there are these disaffected youth! And some of them got put in prison b/c of this reporter guy, and when they get out, steal a car, and go to the beach, they find him and his girlfriend and want to get revenge. Yuki and her sort-of-boyfriend head off to frolic in the water, while Akira stays with the kidnapped girlfriend. You can probably see where this is going.

It goes there.

Later, it turns out that Fumiko (the girlfriend, and also a modern artist) went to the jazz club our main characters got arrested at every day, waiting for Akira to come back so she could Have A Talk with him, b/c she is pregnant. And her boyfriend is kind of totally refusing to have any sort of deep and meaningful talk with her, though she has been obviously upset.

Akira fails to care, concentrating on his music. He is fucking in love with jazz, man. He runs on jazz. (Also, apparently fighting is for people who don't understand jazz.)

A bunch of stuff happens, with Yuki's sort-of-boyfriend joining a gang, Akira going to Fumiko's gallery, Fumiko convincing Yuki to rape the reporter guy to 'make him like her', Yuki's sort-of-boyfriend dying, and Akira breaking into Fumiko's house and basically wrecking it. Fumiko and her boyfriend come home to find him asleep in the wreckage, and decide to kill him by fabricating a gas leak.

Yeah, we got ourselves a cast of real winners here.

Akira wakes up and leaves the house in time, Yuki finds out she is pregnant, and our heroes (using this term loosely) all end up at the same abortion clinic at the same time. Hijinks. Akira and Yuki laugh themselves sick, the screen freezes, and credits roll. The end.

Only thematic things are actually resolved in the film, so I wanted to create some closure for some of the actual storyline. That's basically what this fic is for.
