the harry potter fic I will write someday
I'm contemplating writing the Harry Potter Idfic To End All Idfics. Of course, since this is me, idfic does not mean wings and telepathic horses and hurt/comfort. Idfic means college and jobs and HILARIOUS FIGHTS about music vs. theatre vs. novels vs. physics, MY INTEREST IS BETTER THAN YOURS. Idfic means running away from things like Voldemort and Dumbledore and Fudge's Epic Patriarchy Battle, and to things like art school and buying apartments.
To be written, at some point, by me: Ten (-ish) Wizards Living Part-Time In The Muggle World, wherein Dean is an artist, Neville is a botanist, Hermione is a lawyer or a librarian or a university professor, Justin Finch-Fletchley is in IT, Draco is a dancer or a theatre critic or a columnist or something, Pansy Parkinson is in music school, Harry works part-time in a restaurant, Sally-Anne Perks is an engineer, and Blaise Zabini is an actor.
Or something like that: I want to write a Five Things-esque fic about how the wizarding world just isn't big enough to hold people who have big ambitions, ones that aren't in the narrow, narrow fields the WW has. It sounds to me like most wizards work for the Ministry, or do solo work in something like Potions or Arithmancy. So if you want to do anything else that needs a big audience or a big support structure (one that's not built on House Elves), you need to cross the border.
And if the Ministry's any good at all, they should have somewhere you can get birth certificates, get your A-levels, that sort of thing. They have contact with the Prime Minister, don't they?
