The Characters in my second novel are actually my oldest. I've been writing them for sooo long that they seem like old friends.
When I first conjured them up, I never realized how each one was a piece of my personality.
That brings up a question. As a writer can you ever make a character that does not in a way have a piece of you inside them?
Like, can you make up someone that has nothing not even a bit like yourself?
I think of V and Rabiyya and Mirya, and Bijoux and Miss Belle. They would not be who they were if I didn't bring each one to life for a seperate reason.
Bijoux the spoiled Princess with equally dangerous dual personalities. Belle the consummate artiste with a longing to be loved. V, a vicious warrior determined to be the best in everything. Mirya keeper of all life's knowledge and unwilling angel of mercy. Then there's Rabiyya, the street wise student, whose life has been turned upside down and inside out because of everyone else.
Even in my first novel I hear my high school self in Tensie. It's not a secret who Bobby is based on. Because of this I can answer tons of questions like, "Hmm. Would she really go running after pixies? Probably not. That needs to go."
I don't know, my main point is that even in our most idiotic vile characters there's a bit of the writer there.
Any thoughts?
