When there's nothing left to Burn you have to Set Yourself On Fire....

That's the intro to the Stars album titled "Set Yourself on Fire"...it reminded of the image of the Richard (Hawkes) the shoe salesman in Miranda July's first feature film "Me You and Everyone You Know," when he runs outside the house and stands in front of his boys' room and squirts lighter fluid on his hand and well...sets himself on fire.  The words are powerful, because it speaks of loss....the fear of losing love....the love that once burned so bright... Separation leads to Richard and his boys having to adjust to a new life.  In the film he speaks of an uncle or granfather who once burned his hand too but used alcohol instead of lighter fluid and that it was a greek tradition or something...a cleansing ritual....

It's a way to cope...I guess
