Costumes.

Specifically, costumes for my shadowcast, The Denton Affair. I play Brad Majors, which requires three full costume changes, and Rocky, which requires one. I have also played Columbia, who has a very expensive costume (I borrowed one for the two times I played her). The Denton Affair has certain things we can borrow if we don't have a certain costume piece... but often they smell like cheese or are falling apart. Or both.

My Brad costume is the most complete. I have the glasses. For the wedding scene, I have the black suit jacket and dress pants, the white shirt and the plaid bowtie. I made a plaid cummerbund out of some pajama sleeves. I usually wear black jazz shoes, but I think I'm the only Brad in the cast who wears shoes.

For the driving scene, I have the blue sweatervest (it's really freaking screen-accurate, a gold goodwill find!) and the slacks (which I recently realized are grey, not khaki) and the jacket. The patch on the jacket is Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, not Denton High School... but I suppose I'll remedy that sometime in the future. Due to minimal costume-change time, the shirt under the vest is white, not blue.

And then after the Time Warp, Janet and Brad end up in their underwear. I bought a pack of Hanes. I don't bother packing, I've tried it once or twice and the sock just kept falling out. The lab coats we end up in are The Denton Affair's common property. Brad's is too big and smells quite awful. I took it home once and washed it, but I haven't had the opportunity to do so again for a while.

The blue robe is also common property, and is mostly screen-accurate. I actually had a blue satin robe with a Chinese dragon on it for a long time, but I think I donated it to goodwill before I joined Rocky Horror. Oh well.

One thing I do keep forgetting is that Brad wears a watch with a leather strap. I have a watch but it's gold, not leather. I guess that's on my shopping list, along with a better corset and a boa that isn't falling apart. For the floor show, again I'm one of the only ones with shoes (though sometimes Will and Alyssa have them, and depending on who is playing Frank, Frank has them too). My garter belt and garters are actually pretty screen accurate--Hot Topic had plain garter belts in a sort of satiny fabric one Halloween so I snatched one up and sewed on the extra two straps myself. Then I found the red scrunchy material at Joanne Fabrics when I went to get the red sequin fabric for the one sleeve. The other sleeve is a modified fishnet stocking someone left behind at a show.

Note: Hustler has totally useless fishnets. They are thin and not durable at ALL. I don't remember where I got my first pair but they were definitely better (before they broke, sigh).

As for Rocky, I have a gold bikini I found in Nags Head this past summer. I still want to get gold shorts rather than the bikini bottom I have. The floor show set is the same.

I have been thinking about training for Frank-n-furter. The costume is pretty extensive, and I'd have to make much of it myself. But man. After doing Cry-Baby, I realized I kind of like being in a leading role... and moreover, that I CAN do a leading role. Without cracking up too much. Hah.

Makeup! I almost forgot. For the male roles I use foundation and some dark-ish blush to give myself cheekbones and a stronger jawline. Sometimes I put some on either side of my nose, too, to make it look longer. I darken my eyebrows a bit with some eyeshadow. I usually put on mascara too, because I've noticed that men, being hairier in general, have longer, thicker lashes than I do. Unfair.
