Stone Architecture, paintings #5 and 6

Sep 12, 2008 00:10

The first is of a stone and brick structure in Dubuque, IA.

This painting was made from a photo a friend of mine had taken in Ireland, at some castle ruins.

I'm afraid this first pic was a little out of focus. The lighting where I had my paintings stored is minimal, and yellow. Plus this painting is from a little earlier in my painting career, so it is smaller. It doesn't have the strong colors that my other works do, but I was playing with a different idea. I wanted everything at the edges to be less defined, to feel more like paint, then to resolve into structure at the center of the painting, with bolder contrast.
