So having decided to drop the agenda for Staro and go back to taking him out for in-hand strolls I have to say this evening he was a much calmer pony. He was a bit daft yesterday, and still gets a bit overexcited when other horses start calling to him - he seems to feel duty-bound to answer them and think about prancing over the top of me in the process - but mostly he was much, much better. Basically I just got on with walking and didn'd ask him to do a thing except not walk over me, and not pull me about. Like walking a big golden dog....
Dunno if it's my change of attitude, or the fact that I've started adding magnesium to his feed again, or that he's been walked down there a few times now and is starting to settle in, or a little bit of all of the above. But whatever the reason, it feels once more like we're headed in the right direction.
On the advice of a friend I've also ordered some agnus castus, which is supposed to help calm those raging hormones. So I'll see what that does, too. I feel that if I can just do enough to get him concentrating on ME most of the time instead of anything and everything else; then I might just have a chance of getting some training into him.
Fingers crossed, eh?
