according to a german newspaper article new balance shoes are the secret insignia of the right-wing scene spreading among the german teenagers.
since they are not allowed to be patriots, or be proud they have to rely on secret-codes.
basically, the n on the shoes is supposed to stand for national, something that would never occur to their mothers.
their NSBM (national socialist black metal) and close hair is considered "hip" in german high schools....they are in a protest against the west's more liberal, middle class values.
although youth are not interested in violence, they still advocate extremist behavior and encourage nazi-skinheads to react.
