A/N: For inception100 Oh hey, I'm writing for Inception now? It is such a brilliant movie and Fischer completely stole my heart (hello, it's Cillian Murphy!) and so I'm dedicating my first fic in the fandom to him.

Robert has always measured himself by the degrees of his father's frown. A tilt down and Robert was a disappointment. An even level and Robert failed to impress. A full scowl and Robert was the biggest mistake of Maurice's life.
But now Maurice is in a golden coffin, six feet under, quiet and gone.
Robert feels like a child learning to walk, all stumbling steps and wide eyes to regard a changed world. He feels like a new man and Robert wonders if he will finally like himself without his father's shadow to hide his weaknesses (and his strengths).
