Being able to turn down "everything you want" and still be peaceful about it is the clear sign of a good decision. Glad you gave CL a chance and are looking outside Morris - I'll keep an eye out for stuff up this way!

After reading Mir's advice post, though, I'm curious: Where *do* you want to be 10, 15 years from now? (Not sure I can answer that one myself, so feel free to tell me to bugger off. ;) )

I don't know. I guess that my career has always kind of been almost accidental in where I end up. Sumter was the first and arguably best place to offer me a job out of college. Ending up in Morris came after an opening at the Chronicle's Aiken bureau (my clips got there too late for an anxious bureau chief) led to my resume being bounced around until it ended up in Atlanta.

I guess I should do the whole "x-year plan" thing, but that feels like me trying to manipulate life as opposed to seeing what's in store. And if you're not where you want to be in five years, yet you're still in a good place, are you disappointed?

What do I think? I think I want to be somewhere north of here. (The South is best experienced early in life, and then later, after an absence, from everything I can gather.) I think I still want to be a government/politics reporter, though I can see education or even sports. And I think I want to be moving toward magazines, even if I'm not there yet ( ... )
